I can’t believe it as I am writing this but today is one whole year since I launched my business as a professional artist.
What a year it has been! For so many people it has been a memorable year due to the pandemic. Things have been very different, with three national lockdowns, retail and events being closed and not being able to see friends and family. In April I unfortunately lost my job as a horse riding instructor during the first lockdown. I was gutted, but it gave me the opportunity to do something I would never have had the guts to do otherwise, to launch my business. It was scary and I had no idea what (if anything) would happen. I still cannot believe everything that has happened in the last 12 months...
First of all I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me in the last year, my friends and family (and boyfriend, Scott) for supporting my decision and helping me get established. Also thank you to everyone who has booked portraits or purchased one of my prints or products. Finally a thank you to everyone who has supported my business in any other way - reading my blogs, liking and sharing my social media or subscribing to newsletter. I could never have done any of this without such fantastic supporters.
I am holding a special giveaway for my supporters to celebrate May first anniversary. Two lucky winners will each win one of two artists proofs of Running Hare (these are the ‘samples’ artists order from printers to test print quality, size, etc. before final choices are made). I will be hand finishing these so they will be completely unique! All you need to do is be on my monthly newsletter and I will be choosing two winners next Monday (12th April). Secondly I would like to let you all know about my very exciting announcement - I am launching my own Patreon channel on 5th June! This has been many months in the planning and I am so excited to be able to announce this to everyone. As you may know from previous posts, before becoming an artist I spent 16 years working in a wide variety of roles but mostly in marketing, communications, PR and fundraising for small charities. These roles gave me a wealth of experience and skills that have been invaluable in setting up my small business and getting it to where I am today. 12 months ago I had lost my job in the first lockdown and decided to give it a go as a professional artist. I had been doing a few portraits for family and friends for a few months, had a facebook page and instagram with a couple of hundred followers between them, no website and nothing to sell. Now, just one year on, I am earning a full time wage, have a website and a web store full of my own range, and around 5000 followers on social media. I started answering people’s marketing questions online, and more and more people started to ask. So I decided to start on Patreon! My channel will help artists (and other creative businesses from crafters to writers) to launch and run a successful small business. Check out my website (www.megan-art.com/patreon) for more information and for a free download - a month of social media prompts!
I will be doing a live draw-along on Facebook at 3.30pm today (5th April) so please feel free to join - or you can catch up later as it will be available on my Facebook page.
A huge thank you again for your support and for everyone who has been so great in this last year - I am so excited to see what the next 12 months will bring!
